چکیده

activities of the two enzymes recorded in Table 1 for various animals cannot be compared with each other since the supernatants of the homogenates contain only a portion of the total content of the respective hexosaminidases and since the instability of serylA-acetylgalactosaminidase3 may vary with the source. The relatively high specific activity of serylA-acetylgalactosaminidase of the oviduct of Rana esculenta was observed only in frogs shortly before spawning.

Embryonic, larval and juvenile development of tropical sea urchin, Diadema setosum

Diadema setosum (Leske, 1778), is one of the common echinoids widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific Ocean, where it occurs from the Red Sea, Persian Gulf and the east coast of Africa to Japan, Australia and Malaysia. To investigate the developmental basis of morphological changes in embryos and larvae, we documented the ontogeny of D. setosum in a controlled laboratory condition at the In...

Physical Properties of Gametes in Three Sea Urchin Species

Physical properties (density in kg m-3, viscosity, sinking rates and dispersion rate) of the gametes and associated spawned materials were measured for three species of sea urchin, Tripneustes gratilla, Echinometra mathaei and Colobocentrotus atratus, from habitats that differ in wave exposure. The gametes of all three species are negatively buoyant, highly viscous and exhibit shear-thinning (a...

Sea Urchin Egg Development under the Action of Benzo(a)pyrene and 7,12-Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene1

hggs of the sea urchin Paracenlrotus lividus were used in testing the effect of benzo(a)pyrene and 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene on dividing and differentiating cells. In spite of the nonspecific labeling pattern of tritiated hydrocarbons to cell constituents, treatment of fertilized eggs and pretreatments of both the gametes before fertili zation have shown that the action of benzo(a)pyrene d...

Antibacterial and Antioxidant Characteristics of Pigments and Coelomic Fluid of Sea Urchin, Echinodermata Mathaei Species, from the Persian Gulf

Background & Aims: Sea urchin immune responses are directly exposed to potentially pathogenic microorganisms and develop defence responses mainly based on immunocytes and humoral factors contained in the coelomic fluid. In addition, the polyhydroxylated 1, 4-naphthoquinone pigments are found to possess excellent antimicrobial, antialgal and antioxidant activities. The present ...
